Lauritzen-prize 2009The biggest acting award in Denmark, the Lauritzen Prize, goes to Ditte Hansen and Jesper Langberg, both actors known from a whole series of films, plays, TV dramas and revues. The prizes will be awarded today Monday 18 May at 15:30 at the Royal Playhouse Portscene. Each prize is for DKK 100,000 tax-free. The Lauritzen Prize is the oldest non-association award in Denmark, established and awarded regularly since 1965. It is seen as the most prestigious award in Denmark by industry professionals. Unlike most other theatrical and acting awards, the Lauritzen Prize is not just reserved for play actors. It can also be awarded to people on the basis of various unique performances in film and TV drama. It is not possible to apply for the prize; it is awarded solely at the discretion of the prize committee. Ditte Hansen receives this year's best actress prize because she is herself a piece of unique art. A tall, almost loose-jointed girl, amusing in an especially intense, slightly nervous way. Her body vibrates with tense energy, of confined feelings that either bubble up or linger there, only to let her soul close more and more about them. She can be amazingly funny and crazy, and then she can hit a nerve, a feeling so painfully intense that one is just about to burst with tenderness for her. Jesper Langberg wins this year's best actor prize for always taking the Mickey out of his audience. He above all understands how to shift the sand actually lying under the foundations of the characters he often plays. Foundations that slowly but surely collapse and which are in any event revealed before the eyes of us all. In short, Jesper Langberg is a master of innuendo camouflaged as an acting cork holding back the pressure. Four tax-free travel bursaries of DKK 25,000 each have also been awarded. These are intended to encourage some of the actors and actresses, who each make it rewarding to go to the theatre, cinema, listen to the radio or to sit in front of the TV, to create situations, processes and moments which make the audience think differently or contrary to their own norms. The four travel bursaries this year go to Helle Dolleris, Hans Holtegaard, Martin Buch and Rasmus Botoft.
