As a common stopping point for ships on long voyages, Aarhus Harbour is well-known to sailors from around the world. It’s most famous landmark is ÅrhusSømandshjemmet, or The Seaman’s Home, a club where, for the last 100 years, sailors have enjoyed some time to relax when on shore leave.
Stranded ashore
If you have been at sea for weeks on end, having a welcoming place like The Seaman’s Home to stay in for a short break is a much-welcomed luxury! But, when you’ve just landed ashore – how do you actually get there? The last thing you want to do is walk! Thankfully, for all those who need it, there is a minibus service that runs between the harbour and The Seaman’s Home.
A vital service
This is an important job - every year the minibus transports more than 6,000 sailors to and from the club. However, this run takes its toll and the minibus often needs parts and maintenance to keep going. Staying true to our maritime roots, theLauritzen Foundation has granted 40,000 Dkr. forthe upkeep of the minibus.
