canal tours

Canal tours are a cultural institution in Copenhagen. As the best and most relaxing way to see the beautiful sights of our city, both new and old, the tours are loved by the locals just as much as the many tourists who visit every year.

An eco-friendly idea
In conjunction with the Climate Summit, DFDS Canal Tours decided to try something new - one of their canal boats, the Ugly Duckling, was modified to offera silent and smoke-free experience thanks to a new electric engine. The idea was to charge the boat’s batteries with energy created by windmills during the night,so that the boat could coast along the canals during the day, silently and pollution-free.

A better environment for us all
Even though the plan was expensive, the benefits were clear. That’s why the Lauritzen Foundation was more than happy to grant 700,000 Dkr. to help transform of the Ugly Duckling into a brand new, environmentally-friendly swan. Due to the enormous success and positive reaction of the project, DFDS Canal Tours now has plans to phase out the diesel-driven boats completely.
