The Lauritzen Foundation provides funding and recognition – DKK 1m to the Soldiers’ Grant

The Soldiers’ Grant has awarded several hundred grants to soldiers, police and doctors who have been posted aboard from Denmark on international military missions, and to their families and dependents. These awards cannot be applied for but beneficiaries are recommended for example by family, neighbours, colleagues or by military organisations.

The Grant also arranges helpers and support or develops research projects and engages in preventative activities. It was established in 2009 in recognition of the fact that while the state and defence forces do much to help returning soldiers, there is a grey zone where there is a great need for assistance, especially in mental services provision where problems may only become apparent several years after return. The Soldiers’ Grant is not and should not be seen as a substitute for existing services from the state and defence forces. Instead it is a supplement.
The Soldiers’ Grant survives without marketing and is run by a team of true professionals headed up by Peter Højland. Their work deserves recognition.

The Lauritzen Foundation is the parent company of shipowners J. Lauritzen (wholly-owned) and DFDS (36% owned) as well as LF Investment ApS. LF Investment has holdings in companies in the fields of oil analysis, measuring equipment, software, biotechnology and the real estate market. The Foundation's welfare operations cover social and humanitarian work inside Denmark's borders and abroad, together with training and education and cultural activities in addition to the Foundation's special interest in the maritime sector. The Lauritzen Foundation makes awards totalling DKK 20-25m annually.
